Residual migration in VTI media using anisotropy continuation

چکیده
We introduce anisotropy continuation as a process which relates changes in seismic images to perturbations in the anisotropic medium parameters. This process is constrained by two kinematic equations, one for perturbations in the normal-moveout (NMO) velocity and the other for perturbations in the dimensionless anisotropy parameter η. We consider separately the case of post-stack migration and show that the kinematic equations in this case can be solved explicitly by converting them to ordinary differential equations by the method of characteristics. Comparing the results of kinematic computations with synthetic numerical experiments confirms the theoretical accuracy of the method.

Optimized implicit finite-difference migration for VTI media
I develop an implicit finite-difference migration method for vertical transversely isotropic (VTI) media with laterally varying anisotropy parameters. I approximate the dispersion relation of VTI media with a rational function series, the coefficients of which are estimated by least-squares optimization. These coefficients are functions of Thomsen anisotropy parameters. They are calculated and ...
متن کاملAnisotropy signature in P-wave extended images for VTI media
Extended images obtained from reverse-time migration (RTM) contain information about the accuracy of the velocity field and subsurface illumination at different incidence angles. Here, we evaluate the influence of errors in the anisotropy parameters on the residual moveout (RMO) in P-wave extended images obtained with RTM for VTI (transversely isotropic with a vertical symmetry axis) media. Ass...
متن کاملElastic wavefield separation for VTI media
The separation of wave modes from isotropic elastic wavefields is typically done using Helmholtz decomposition. However, Helmholtz decomposition using conventional divergence and curl operators in anisotropic media does not give satisfactory results and leaves the different wave modes only partially separated. The separation of anisotropic wavefields requires the use of more sophisticated opera...
متن کاملTTI Anisotropic Depth Migration: Which Tilt Estimate Should We Use?
Summary We perform a series of numerical modelling and migration experiment with different homogeneous TTI anisotropic media, characterized by tilt axis, polar velocity and anisotropy parameters. In the case of structurally conformable media, where the tilt of the medium coincides with the dip of the structure, great simplifications arise in the decoupling of the anisotropy parameters. In parti...
متن کاملMultiparameter Full-waveform Inversion for Acoustic VTI Medium with Surface Seismic Data
SUMMARY In this study, we develop a strategy for multiparameter FWI for acoustic VTI medium with surface seismic data. Through parameterization analysis and synthetic tests, we find that it is more feasible to invert for the parameterization as vertical and horizontal velocities instead of inverting for the parameterization as vertical velocity and anisotropy fields. We develop a hierarchical a...
